Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) hosted the final round of the Egyptian Olympiad in Computational Science (EOCS) 2026 on August 16 at its campus in Knowledge City.

EOCS is Egypt's first national competition dedicated to solving complex scientific problems in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics through programming, data analysis, and computational modeling, with the goal of identifying, nurturing, and empowering the country's most talented students in computational science.

This year's edition drew more than 780 students aged 14 to 25, all with a background in basic programming, mathematics, and science. Of these, 165 advanced to the training phase, taking part in online sessions covering computational modeling, Python programming, and data analysis.

The final round brought together 12 teams and 35 students from across Egypt in fierce competition, including 30 students from specialized STEM secondary schools and five university students. Capping off the qualification and training phases, the teams took on a closing round of team-based computational challenges centered on scientific modeling, advanced problem-solving, interdisciplinary fields, and real-world simulation.

The competition closed with an awards ceremony, where the top three teams received cash prizes of EGP 3,000 for first place, EGP 2,000 for second, and EGP 1,000 for third, along with certificates of excellence across various scientific fields. All winning teams were honored, and every participant who reached the final round received a certificate of participation.

EOCS reflects Egypt's broader efforts to identify and nurture promising talent in science and technology, and to encourage young people to pursue scientific research and tackle complex problems using the latest computational tools. In hosting the event, EUI continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing scientific innovation and providing students with a platform to sharpen their skills and compete in a stimulating academic environment.
